Genset canopy specification sheet

A canopy quotation is only as good as the specification behind it. Two RFQs that both say "soundproof canopy, MS, painted" will produce two prices that cannot be compared. This sheet turns the requirement into a document a supplier can quote against and a buyer can audit.

1. Generator data

Model and rating in kVA, prime or standby, engine make, radiator position and airflow requirement in m³/min, exhaust outlet size, control panel location and the alternator cooling path. Without the airflow figure the louvre design is a guess.

2. Acoustic requirement

State the target in dB(A) and the measurement condition: distance, height, number of sides, and whether the set is on load. A target without a measurement point is not a specification. Say whether the requirement comes from a customer standard, a site permit or an internal target.

3. Airflow and louvre

Intake and exhaust free area, louvre type and blade angle, bird mesh, and the pressure drop the radiator fan can tolerate. Free area should be calculated from the finished louvre, not measured on the drawing.

4. Base frame and lifting

Skid, tank base or mounting frame; fork pocket positions; lifting points and their rating; flatness and the anti-vibration mount interface. Base frame flatness decides whether the set sits without shimming.

5. Access and service

Door size, hinge side, latch type, gasket, and whether the door must be openable with the set running. Cable entry position and gland plate. Fuel filling and level gauge access.

6. Coating and environment

Substrate, pretreatment, powder type, RAL, gloss, DFT, and the corrosion exposure category. State whether the set is for coastal, industrial or indoor service, because that changes the pretreatment and the powder.

7. Documentation and packing

General arrangement drawing, acoustic test report if claimed, material certificates, coating records, packing method and the shipping configuration.
